PM Receives Kuwaiti Finance Minister



Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received today a delegation headed by Kuwaiti Minister of Finance Mustafa Jassem al-Shamali. In Armenia on a 3-day official visit, the delegation is set to attend the joint session of the Armenian-Kuwaiti intergovernmental commission.

Welcoming the guests, Prime Minister Sargsyan said developing all-out ties with the Arab world is a priority to the Government of Armenia. “We have huge untapped economic potential. The quickly changing world makes us focus on cooperation and strengthened bonds with regional friendly nations.”

The parties discussed a wide rage of issues relating to bilateral trade and economic exchanges, including possibilities for implementation of investment programs in a number of spheres.

Views were exchanged on facilitation of cooperation in agriculture, mining industry, tourism, information technologies, manufacture of precision instruments, chemistry, textile industry, pharmaceutics, power engineering, infrastructure development, finance, as well as boosting interaction between the business circles. As to the development of economic relations, they noted the importance of the activities of the intergovernmental commission.

Mustafa Jassem al-Shamali said since his country is interested in making investments in Armenia, they need getting acquainted with Armenia’s investment opportunities. Tigran Sargsyan assured that he will arrange for information to be provided to the Kuwaiti side, as well as for taking up the matter at the proceedings of the Armenian-Kuwaiti intergovernmental commission.

Mustafa Jassem al-Shamali expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan for a warm welcome and forwarded the greetings of the Kuwaiti Prime Minister.

In turn, the Armenian Premier conveyed greetings to his Kuwaiti counterpart and reiterated the invitation to visit Armenia.

Note that the first session of Armenia-Kuwait intergovernmental commission was held today, co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Territorial Administration Armen Gevorgyan and Kuwaiti Minister of Finance Mustafa Jassem al-Shamali.

The current state of affairs and the development prospects of cooperation in the economic, investment, scientific-technical, educational and cultural spheres have been discussed with a special emphasis on the expansion of commercial and economic relations. In conclusion, an agreement on cooperation in air communications was signed between the Republic of Armenia and the State of Kuwait.
