PM Receives Members of Armenian Union Of Manufacturers And Businessmen

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received a delegation from the Armenian Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen.

Addressing those present, Tigran Sargsyan said the government was going to table a voluminous fiscal package before the National Assembly in a bid to extend the tax base which in turn will help collect AMD 101bn more taxes in 2012 as compared to this year.

“To cope with this task, we have targeted those where new revenue sources are to be exposed. Part of revenue will go to the treasury as a means for addressing the problem. That is we have to reduce the budget gap without stepping down on the expenditure side. The only way is to collect more taxes. To cope with the mentioned major task, we will be looking for extra revenue without pressuring on businesses.”

Considering that the crisis-triggered poverty is Armenia’s number one foe, Tigran Sargsyan said an important tool of overcoming poverty is to increase the level of welfare benefits and pensions.

“In 2012 we are planning to take a series of actions to promote home business. Part of the State budget will used to that end. The Ministry of Economy has developed a strategy of industrial policy under which AMD 1.5bn will be spent annually to assist local businesses which in turn will boost exports, international cooperation and so on.

That is on the one hand we are trying to collect more revenue and, on the other, spend them effectively in addressing social issues, curbing poverty and improving the business environment. Here, we look forth to getting your support.”

The meeting next discussed those issues of interest to the delegation, looking at the proposals made on either side.
