Prime Minister Welcomes Members of European Parliament
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received today a delegation from the European Parliament, headed by EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee Co-Chair Milan Cabrnoch.
Welcoming the guests, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that meetings like that enable discussing a wide range of issues of mutual interest.
Thankful for a warm welcome, Milan Cabrnoch introduced the delegation members.
During the exchange of views that followed the members of the European Parliament expressed interest in regional issues, Armenia’s relations with the neighboring countries, as well as in the home democratization processes, governance issues and current political situation.
Concerning the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Prime Minister Sargsyan pointed out the need for peaceful settlement, valuing the activities of OSCE Minsk Group.
Referring to EU-Armenia cooperation, the head of government said to be pleased with the pace of talks on EU-Armenia association agreement adding that a new reform agenda consisting of 33 line items was submitted to EU Commissionaire Stefan Fule during the Premier’s September 19 visit to Brussels.
Assessing as quite positive the activities of EuroNest, Tigran Sargsyan said they may provide a solid platform for experience sharing and enhancement of bilateral inter-parliamentary ties.
At the guests’ request, the Prime Minister dwelt on Armenia’s political developments, evoking in particular the upcoming parliamentary elections, leadership-opposition relations etc.
Note that the delegation of the European Parliament is in Armenia to attend the 12th meeting of EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee due this November 2-3 in Yerevan. Chairwoman of National Assembly standing committee on European integration Naira Zohrabyan is the Armenian co-chair of the Committee.
