Economic Competition-Related Agenda Discussed
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received William Kovachik, international expert on protection of economic competition. The latter has provided expert assistance to the governments of Armenia, Benin, Egypt, El Salvador, Georgia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Morocco, Nepal, Panama, Russia, Ukraine, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.
The Prime Minister noted that our country is confronted with a number of objective challenges in the field of economic competition, but the government is doing its utmost to ensure free and fair competition. From that perspective, the Prime Minister appreciated the ongoing cooperation with Mr. Kovachik in pursuit of his government’s anti-monopoly policies.
William Kovachik said to be impressed by Armenia’s anti-monopoly policy and the legislative reform implemented in that framework. According to the international expert, the government’s policy is considered as one of the best ones on the international arena. William Kovachik suggested working out a relevant strategy, based on which the Armenian State Commission on the Protection of Economic Competition will build its future policy.
In this connection, the head of government urged William Kovachik and Head of Armenia’s State Commission on Protection of Economic Cooperation Artak Shaboyan to cooperate toward formulating new proposals aimed at strengthening Armenia’s antitrust policy.
