Tigran Sargsyan Handed Awards to the Community Leaders Avowed the Best in Different Categories
An award ceremony was held today at Matenadaran, within the framework of the events dedicated to the 15th anniversary of Armenian self-government bodies. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan. The best community leaders in different categories were handed their awards by the Prime Minister himself.
The town of Artik, Shirak region, was recognized as the best urban community of 2011, and the community of Mkhchyan was recognized as the best rural community. The town of Talin, Aragatsotn region, and Amasia rural community, Shirak region, were awarded as ‘Clean Community 2011’. The award for the ‘Best Green Community’ went to Lchashen community, Gegharkunik region. The prize for the ‘Best Coverage of Community Life’ was awarded to ‘Hetq’ online newspaper, and Gyumri was recognized as the ‘Best Cultural City’.
The award ceremony for ‘The Best Community of the Year’ is an annual, traditional event, organized by the Ministry of Territorial Administration of Armenia and the Communities Association of Armenia, and has been held since 2006.
It has an aim to make the activities of the communities more transparent and public, as well as to create healthy competition, thereby increasing the effectiveness of local self-government bodies. The award ceremony is also a way of appreciation of the successful work done by the communities throughout the year
