Government Discusses Seismic Safety-Related Issues




Chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, the government held a regular meeting of the Scientific and Technical Council.

Down to the agenda, the Council heard and backed a number of proposals on the use seismic isolation systems for buildings under construction, upgrades and reinforcement in Armenia.

The Prime Minister instructed the Minister of Urban Development to form and head a working group to coordinate the needed actions and draft a list of such buildings and facilities as may need upgrading in Yerevan. The meeting looked at the possibility of launching “Seismic Isolation of Buildings and Structures” courses at the universities of the Republic of Armenia.

The Ministers of Agriculture and Education and Science were told to draft a strategic program of agricultural mechanization and engineering development along with the relevant action plan in cooperation with the head of the State Scientific Committee by the Ministry of Education and Science for the Government’s approval.

The meeting took note of the report delivered by Head of the State Scientific Committee by the Ministry of Education and Science Samvel Harutyunyan on the development of small and medium-scale chemistry in Armenia.

In conclusion, the Council reviewed the agenda of its forthcoming sitting.
