Co-chairs of Armenian-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation Meet





Today Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan received Russian co-chair of the Armenian-Russian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, RF Transport Minister Igor Levitin. The sides pointed out the positive dynamics of the bilateral trade-economic relations. "We can register progress in the process of implementation of declarations of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation. I want to express my gratitude to our Russian partners for the carried out work," Tigran Sargsyan said. The Prime Minister stressed the need to move forward in that direction.
"The year was successful in terms of bilateral economic cooperation; as a result we managed to reach the level of pre-crisis trade circulation. We must do everything to support and promote this progress in the future," Levitin said.
The two sides also discussed the management of the free economic zones in Armenia by "Sitronics" company, provision of agricultural machinery by "Rosagroleasing" company, establishment of the company's representation in Armenia as well as other issues on humanitarian cooperation.
Expressing gratitude to the Russian side for the participation in the events dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Armenian typography, the Prime Minister called on to also participate in the ‘Yerevan as World Capital of Book’ program.
The next sitting of the Armenian-Russian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation will be held in Yerevan in the second half of 2012.
As a result of the meeting Tigran Sargsyan and Igor Levitin signed a protocol based on the discussions, as well as concept of long-term economic cooperation by 2020, developed on the basis of protocol of the 13th sitting of the commission held in Rostov on July 8, 2011.
The main purpose of the concept is to work out basic principles and approaches for long-term cooperation between the two countries; define the perspective directions of bilateral trade-economic relations.
The concept demands diversification of economy, increase of competitiveness based on technological progress, as well as upgrading of economic and social spheres, and increase the export potential and its consistent use.
