The Results of the NRSC Activities in 2010-2011 Were Discussed
Regular sitting of the National Road Safety Council was held today at the Government chaired by the RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.
In accordance with the approved agenda, Poghos Shahinyan, Head of Secretariat, presented a report on the activities of the NRSC in 2010-2011. The Council took note of the reports on the public information and educational activities implemented in the field (‘Road Safety in Media’, ‘Make Roads Safe’), as well as on the progress of the pilot project of cooperation between the World Bank and RA Ministry of Transport and Communications.
It was also mentioned that NRSC was awarded the Prince Michael International Road Safety Premier Award 2010 for the adoption and implementation of RA road safety strategy and its implementation.
Afterwards the statistics of car accidents during the reporting period were presented. The members of the Council discussed the collision database program, presented by the NRSC Secretariat, a special computer program which aims to improve the collection of collision data and provide monitoring and evaluation of the data. The Head of the Government instructed the RA police to investigate the project and submit recommendations regarding the advisability of its purchase.
The board has approved the proposal to organize ‘Decade of Action’ international summit in Yerevan in April 2012. It should be noted that the international program ‘Decade of Action’ declared by the UN officially launched at the summit held in Serbia in April 2011. The goal of the decade to save lives of 5 million people by 2020.
The members of the Council also discussed the RA and Yerevan national road safety strategy and the action plan of 2012 based on the activities of the last 5 years. Tigran Sargsyan instructed to edit it within a week, taking into account the presented suggestions and comments.
The Council decided to transfer the seat belts “seat belt slide”, gifted by the Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport (EASST) UK, to the RA police.
