Optimism Characteristic To Residents Of Kotayk Marz
Chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, the Government held a visiting session in Kotayk Marz.
To begin with, the meeting heard Kotayk Marz Governor Kovalenko Shahgaldyan’s report on the socio-economic situation and activities carried out in 2011 and January-February, 2012. The Cabinet took note of the analytical report made by the Chief of Government Staff concerning the citizens' requests, complaints and recommendations addressed to public agencies.
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said a survey had been conducted in Kotayk Marz ahead of the meeting, with the following priorities specified by the citizens: availability of jobs, road building activities, support for the local farmers, healthcare and, finally, wage increases.
Another problem is the lack of teachers. Interesting is that while the socio-economic situation in Kotayk Marz is not much better than in other regions, people seem to be optimistic about their future. And what is also interesting is that the Marz has the lowest figure of migrant workers. Surveys have shown that a very small part of the population relies on migratory workers as compared to other regions.
The Executive amended a previous decree for clearer specification of those funds allocated under “economic stabilization loans,” as well as in order to specify financing mechanisms for the new ones. 90% of the population in Kotayk Marz have benefited from subsidies so allocated.
The meeting endorsed an IT sector boosting program and the list of events for 2012. “This is the sector where we managed a breakthrough progress due to the fact that the private sector is setting a clear-cut task before the State, namely to raise by at least 20 percent the share of IT students in our universities,” the head of government said.
The Government went on to approve the results of the tender announced for the rehabilitation of the M-6 Vanadzor-Alaverdi-Georgian border road section which was damaged after a recent landslide. A consortium formed through the merger of “Highway” and “Ararat-Chanshin Ltd” was recognized to be the winner with a bid of AMD 549,999,983.
In this connection, the Prime Minister called attention on the list of roads in need of emergency repair where the situation keeps on aggravating: “Rehabilitation works have to be started as soon as possible, otherwise we may face serious risks associated with collapses and traffic halts,” the Prime Minister said.
Amending a previous decree and making redistributions to the 2012 State budget law, the Government allocated AMD 6mn to the Ministry of Agriculture for taking such steps as may be needed to protect population and farmland against spring floods on Aras River.
In conclusion, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan reminded that those officials involved in electoral processes and holding discretionary public posts will have to go on holiday as of this April 1 in accordance with the applicable legislation. This measure seeks to prevent them from using their official position in the electoral process, or otherwise withdrawing from the electoral lists.
