Modern Oncology Center To Be Established In Yerevan
Attended by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, Armenia’s National Competitiveness Fund (NCF) and the Global Medical Solutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Office of Government. The document was signed by NCF Managing Director Arman Khachaturyan and Global Medical Solutions Chief Executive Officer Haik Bakrjian respectively.
A state-of-the-art oncology center will be established in Yerevan in co-operation with the Global Medical Solutions. The center will comprise three cutting-edge units: a laboratory hosting a cyclotron for the synthesis of radioisotopes, a diagnostic center with a non-prototype modern PET scanner to detect tumors in an embryonic state and, finally, a clinic to provide the isotope-based treatment of diseases.
Enabling the early detection of tumors, the center will help reduce the number of fatalities and promote the development of nuclear medicine in Armenia. Patients will have the possibility of choosing specific method of treatment.
The Center will be managed by the Global Medical Solutions which has wide international experience in this field and runs similar centers in Australia, Brazil, China, Hong Kong, New Zealand, the Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand. This € 35mn-worth project is implemented through the public-private partnership principle.
According to statistics, about 2,700 Armenian citizens get various disabilities caused by malignant tumors leading to 75 million dram economic loss annually. This figure may double from year to year, should the disease keep growing at its current pace.
While we only had some 125 incidences in 1995 and 185 in 2000, now this figure stands at about 235 cases a year.
