Tigran Sargsyan Receives Sergey Lavrov
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov who is paying an official visit to our country.
“We are paying special attention to relations with Russia. Russia is our strategic partner and we must expand and strengthen the bilateral ties. We will do our utmost to reach this goal as it fully meets the interests of our people,” Tigran Sargsyan said greeting the guest.
The RF Foreign Minister said a lot of good work and prospective programs have marked the 20th anniversary of Armenian-Russian diplomatic relations and efforts are being made in this direction: “Cooperation is on the upgrade in all areas, and the role of the two governments should be appreciated in this respect,” Sergey Lavrov noted.
The parties referred to such joint programs as the launch of Hrazdan-5 TPP unit, the operations of Sitronics Ltd and the establishment of free economic zones, the construction of a new nuclear power unit. They also talked over a number of projects in mining and agriculture, as well as on the integration processes underway in the CIS frameworks.
Noting that Russia is a major investor in Armenia, Tigran Sargsyan and Sergey Lavrov expressed satisfaction at the current pace of bilateral trade and economic relations.
Another agenda item was the possibility of integrating the Upper Lars checkpoint in the Russian customs system to enable the transit of excise goods.
In conclusion, Tigran Sargsyan briefed Sergey Lavrov on Armenia’s current economic position and the main directions of his government’s economic policy.
