PM Attends Opening Of Symposium On Transformation Society Development Problems
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan attended the opening of an Armenian State Pedagogical University-hosted two-day international symposium, entitled “Theoretical and practical problems of development of transformation societies.”
Greeting the participants, the Prime Minister noted that the subject is of topical concern not only to scientists but also to politicians. “I am confident that the symposium will help expand the scope of Pedagogical University’s international cooperation. We have developed an ambitious program to upgrade its standard to that of best foreign universities,” Tigran Sargsyan advised.
The Prime Minister said the global economic crisis has aggravated the problems faced by transformation societies and, therefore, politicians need to find such solutions as may prevent the downgrade in the living standards of citizens. “On the other hand, many questions still go unanswered in science due to the fact that we are living in a quickly changing world characterized by enhanced openness and mutual influences. We can witness the birth of a qualitatively new postindustrial society, which tends to produce knowledge instead of commodities. Modern are those societies capable of producing modern knowledge,” the Premier stressed adding that the Government needs to develop knowledge-friendly infrastructures. Noting that a stronger focus should be placed on research, the Prime Minister assured that the Government will take note of the outcome of the symposium.
President of the International Academy of Philosophy, Academician Gevorg Broutyan conferred the title of honorary doctor upon the Prime Minister. Considering it a binding title, Tigran Sargsyan expressed gratitude for such a high appreciation of his research activities.
