ITDSC Holds Regular Meeting

Chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, the Information Technology Development Support Council (ITDSC) met in a regular session at the Office of Government.

Taking note of the report on the status of previous meeting’s assignments, the Council proceeded to agenda items. Concerning the problems faced in the telecommunications sector, it was proposed to develop new mechanisms of infrastructure development and eliminate the legislative gaps.

Down to public procurement and competition issues, it was proposed to launch a consolidated website to post the list of all competitions, participants and results.

The speakers emphasized the need for providing universities with state-of-the-art academic software. They suggested developing online encyclopedia to be used as a teaching aid on the part of local universities. A pilot project was said out for schools covering geometry for the time being. The Ministry of Education and Science was charged to discuss the proposal and give an opinion.

Next on the agenda was the question of Armenian-based computer keyboards. A number of leading hardware manufacturers were reported ready to produce such keyboards.

Considering that the Armenian-lettered keyboards will be bilingual, with English and Armenian keys to be used in parallel, the need has arisen to choose between Armenian Typewriter or Armenian Phonetic systems. The head of government instructed public agencies to formulate a common approach ahead of the talks with the prospective producers.

As the meeting reviewed the list of events for 2012, it was noted that some of them might have a global coverage involving participants from different countries.
