Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan’s Genocide Victims Remembrance Day Message
Dear compatriots,
Today - April 24 - is the 97th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide which was planned and perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire.
The executioners of our people sought to complete the physical extermination of our nation with a cultural genocide and the destruction of historical memory.
Bowing before the memory of innocent victims, we can state today that the perpetrators missed the target. They failed to exterminate the Armenians or do away with our sense of ethnic identity and historical memory. They were unable to have a blind eye turned to the historical truth and deafen the voice of those peoples and States which stand by the Armenian people trying to prevent the crimes against humanity.
We join the Genocide survivors still living in our country to mourn the killings of our ancestors with the conviction that sooner or later, Turkey will face its own history and that the appalling crime of Genocide will be given the appropriate assessment.
Commemorating the Genocide victims, we realize that survival is the only way to soothe the pain of Mets Yeghern. We must move ahead toward a dignified future for our statehood and people.
