Integrated Social Service System Being Introduced





A Cabinet sitting was held today, chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.

Approving the program of integrated social services, the government endorsed a pilot program for implementation of integrated social services in Ararat Marz. It was decided that a steering committee should be set up by Prime Minister’s decision to coordinate the introduction of integrated social services in Armenia.

Amending two previous decisions numbered 1268-N of October 4, 2007 and 329-N of April 4, 2008 respectively, the government made it possible for those foreign citizens of Armenian origin entitled to getting entry visas only from Armenia’s diplomatic missions and consulates on the basis of invitation, to be granted a visa at border checkpoints.

The government specified those countries - Lebanon and Syria - whose citizens may get Armenian citizenship for the first time from the Armenian diplomatic missions and consulates. It was also decided that in special events, Armenian passports can be granted at the diplomatic missions and consular institutions of Armenia.

Another decision was passed to approve the proposal on signing an arrangement between the governments of Armenia and the Philippines implying exemption from the entry visa requirement of diplomatic and official passport holders.

The meeting approved the results of the engineering tender announced for the OPEC International Development Fund-supported “Rural Capacity Building” project. The following entities were recognized to be the winners of the international competition: Sade JSC (France), Blesk LLC (Russia) and Europrofile CJSC. The former two will carry out water/gas supply, gas main construction activities in Tavush and Aragatsotn marzes, while the latter will ensure gas main installation works in Syunik marz communities of Armenia.

The Government next approved the outcome of the open international tender announced to pick out a contractor for the World Bank-funded lifeline road improvement program’s additional component.

To support the Argentine-based Armenian businessman Eduardo Eurnekian-founded “Tieras de Armenia company, the government allowed the use of the following grape varieties for making Armenian brandies: Aligote, Shenin, Colombard-b, Folle Blanche-B and Ougni Blank-B. Since November, 2004, the Company has been developing 2300 hectares of land under a 15 year- program and has already set up a 300-hectare-wide vineyard.

As part of its legislative initiative, the Government endorsed a set of amendments covering the following laws and regulations: the civil service law, the community service law, the code on administrative offences. Also, the meeting decided upon the expediency of having a second parliamentary reading vote on the bill on amendments to the law on consumer cooperation.
