Traditional Parties Are Part Of National Patrimony

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan attended a gala meeting dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the Social Democratic Henchak Party of Armenia, held at the Conference Hall of the Government of the Republic of Armenia.

Welcoming the participants, the Prime Minister stated in part, “I deeply believe that the traditional parties are an asset to our people: their existence and further strengthening in both Armenia and the Diaspora is in our national interest. The stronger they are, the more powerful the Armenian people will be. We do not always share the same ideas with the Social Democratic Henchak Party, we do not always agree with them, but in my capacity of Head of Government and Vice-Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia, I wish to reiterate that we are ready to cooperate with all those political forces concerned with the nation’s future. I am sure that the SDHP is just like that.”

According to the Prime Minister, the geopolitical situation poses many challenges in the region, which makes us focus on security issues. Social-democratic values should be adequately represented in the political field of Armenia and the SDHP has a lot to do in this respect.

“We still have to solve many problems in the country: poverty goes high and living standards are far from being ideal. But I am confident that it is a temporary bottleneck. We can see your party bringing investments to the homeland through its worldwide structures. This is a demonstration of common sense and wisdom which has been built up over the past 125 years, namely that the interests of the homeland and the Armenian people are above the political ones,” Tigran Sargsyan noted.

Referring to the forthcoming presidential elections in Armenia, the Prime Minister stated, “The elections will be free, fair and transparent. We will provide a level playing field for all candidates, and from this point of view, we have the political will and determination. Dear friends, I want to conclude my speech with the words of President Serzh Sargsyan: “Armenians worldwide are concerned with our national aspirations and the fate of Armenia, which is directly linked to the fate of our compatriots scattered all over the world. Not only do we have common roots, but we also cherish shared national dreams.
Let us fight for the sake of a better Armenia, the future Armenia”

In his speech, Chairman of SDHP political board Sedrak Achemyan said the efforts made by incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and the Armenian Government are inspiring optimism.

“Notwithstanding vast ideological differences between us, I feel that the Prime Minister is mindful of the problems of Armenia. He is open to dialog, especially with his opponents. I think he is the type of a statesman to benefit the country. Mr. Prime Minister, we think differently, we are the representatives of different political currents. Nevertheless, I am addressing to you the assurances of my highest consideration. We still have to go a long way together. We may criticize some of your undertakings, we may not share in your standpoints, but I am convinced that the Republic of Armenia will be the one to benefit from this atmosphere of freedom and mutual respect,” Sedrak Achemyan concluded.
