Today the Council for Coordination of Poverty Reduction Strategic Program has met at the Office of Government under the chairmanship of council chairman, Republic of Armenia Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan. The meeting was attended by representatives of non-governmental and international organizations.
The Council has discussed and approved the PRSP progress report for 2004 and the first quarter of 2005. Meeting agenda included discussion of possible modifications to the PRSP and approval of composition of the task force on coordination of ongoing activities under the PRSP.
The progress report was supported with a comparative analysis of PRSP targets and actual outturn. Reference was made of the macroeconomic framework and institutional reforms, as well as the impact of policies pursued in individual sectors along with achievements and existing bottlenecks. The item was presented by head of coordination task force, RA Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy Souren Gharayan.
According to the report, considerable fall in the number of both poor and extremely poor population has been recorded during the first years of PRSP activity. The situation generated by the developments in 2003, 2004 and 2005 proved more optimistic than the forecasts of PRSP scenario.
