Progress In Nationwide Reforestation Activities Discussed
Chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, Republic of Armenia Reforestation and Woodland Development Foundation Council met today in the Office of Government.
The meeting discussed and approved as follows: the report on the Foundation’s financial and economic activities in 2012, the staffing for the year 2013 and the estimate of maintenance Costs.
As a whole, the Foundation established 254 hectares of forest area in the country over the past few years along with 54km-long irrigation lines and 18km-long fencing.
During this spring season, the Foundation is going to implement reforestation activities over an area of 31 hectares in Erebuni administrative district of Yerevan. 20 hectares of woodland will be set up in Artik region of Shirak marz.
Concerning the reforestation programs to be implemented in Yerevan, Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Kamo Areyan advised that the capital city has some 800 hectares of forest estate. Serious progress is recorded in 56ha-wide reforestation activities next to the TV tower, as well as in Erebuni administrative district of Yerevan – 65 hectares.
A total of 200-300 hectare-wide reforestation work is expected to be carried out in Yerevan Over the next few years.
