Tigran Sargsyan Meets “Ernst & Young” Global Organization’s Senior Representatives Of Armenian Origin
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan called at the National Library of Armenia to meet with senior representatives of Armenian origin of “Ernst & Young” global organization, which provides audit and consulting services.
Welcoming the participants of the meeting, Tigran Sargsyan presented in detail the structure and the status of Armenia’s economy. The Prime Minister addressed the challenges facing our country, reforms in tax and customs administration and other areas, which are aimed at curbing the shadow economy etc.
In this regard, the Premier said that first of all steps are being taken to achieve transparency and predictability in the activities of large enterprises.
“Relevant information should be available not only to government agencies but also to society. We have published information on taxes paid by large businesses so that society could control them. From now on, those Armenian enterprises with turnover of over USD5mn are required to publish their annual financial statements together with the auditor’s findings. We are making the first steps in this direction,” Tigran Sargsyan said adding that the new legislative arrangements are needed to fully streamline this sphere.
The Prime Minister said that the next most important task of government is the separation of business and politics.
“Here, too, we have made the first steps, compelling 500 top public officials and related persons to submit income and asset declarations for public reference. We are trying to expose the activities of politicians and major businesses through a mechanism of checks and balances against misuse of power,” Tigran Sargsyan stated.
Answering the questions asked by the audience, the Prime Minister touched upon the Government’s steps toward economic and civil society development.
