PM Meets Armenian General Athletic Union Board Members
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received Armenian General Athletic Union (AGAU) Board members, who are in Armenia to attend the 9th pan-Armenian Games.
Welcoming the guests and stressing the role played by the AGAU in promoting the Armenian identity, the Prime Minister said, “It is always a pleasure to meet with youth from the Armenian General Athletic Union. We believe you to be at the forefront of maintaining and promoting the spirit of patriotic education. I can assure that the Government of Armenia will do everything to assist you with your mission.”
Introducing his delegation to the Prime Minister, AGAU Lebanon branch office head Garnik Mkertichyan stressed that a chief objective is to get the Diaspora youth to visit their homeland. He advised that this July 28, the weeklong Pan-Armenian Games will be officially inaugurated in Freedom Square, with some 600 athletes from Armenia and the Diaspora to participate in this 9th edition.
Thanking the Premier for support and cooperation, the AGAU Board members asked him for assistance with the improvement and expansion of those camping sites assigned under a government decree. They appreciated the activities of the inter-ministerial committee, established on instructions from the Prime Minister.
Highlighting the significant role played by the Diaspora-based political parties in promoting the Armenian identity worldwide, Tigran Sargsyan said, “We are eager to see an ever-strong ARF in pursuit of its high mission. We are also interested in the strength of our traditional parties as there is no alternative to the noble mission of preserving our ethnic identity.”
