Today RA Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan has received World Bank Director for Europe, Central Asia and South Caucasus Ms. D. Dowsett-Coirolo and Head of the World Bank Armenia Office Mr. Roger Robinson.
Discussed were issues bearing on bilateral cooperation. Satisfaction was expressed on either side at the pace joint programs execution. The parties have also referred to the reforms underway in different sectors, the progress in PRSP implementation, outstanding problems and future action.
Ms. Dowsett-Coirolo said to be pleased with continued positive changes in Armenia's economy that proved more apparent every time she visited Armenia, especially, as far as Yerevan was concerned. As she said, the primary task at this point was to identify the steps for building on the current achievements.
The World Bank Country Director advised that Armenia was rated highest by the Bank for good performance in the implementation of Bank-supported programs and for its efforts towards the improvement of business and investment environment in the country. Yet, this did not mean that all the problems had been settled already and that decision-makers might rest on their laurels. She said that the Bank was going to give these regular ratings more publicity so as to keep the public-at-large widely informed on the criteria used and the findings made.
Also, the representative of the World Bank informed that Mr. Roger Robinson's term of office was expiring and, although the management of the Bank had not yet decided on who was going to substitute him, she was hopeful that his eventual successor would continue to carry out the joint programs with as much success as Mr. Robinson did.
