Tigran Sargsyan: market demand for IT professionals up from year to year
Hackathon [IAN] flight - 2013 competition-festival of innovative ideas and programming kicked off today at Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport. The participating teams of programmers, and not only of them, will be given no more than 24 hours to develop and present to jury their ideas and a prototype (show sample) of the proposed program application.
Tigran Sargsyan visited the airport and talked to team members getting a first-hand view of their innovative ideas and projects. The Head of Government welcomed the initiative to hold such a contest. The Premier said he would encourage youth interest in information technology, because there is ever increasing market demand for IT specialists in Armenia.
“Armenia has seen steady growth in this area in recent years to hold a leading position on the region,” he told the reporters.
Not only are the participants supposed to realize their own ideas creating applications that can be downloaded all over the world, but also experience the ability of addressing the problem trying to implement various ideas, and get rewards, opportunities for cooperation and investment.
The competition is expected to result in an array of exportable prototypes, applications or solutions to a number of ready-made programs.
This year’s Hackathon [IAN] is called Flight, since Zvartnots International Airport may become a springboard for the competitors, as well as for many new ideas ahead of a long journey.
The Hackathon [IAN] Flight 2013 annual contest of innovative ideas and programming has been initiated by Microsoft’s Innovation Center in Armenia, the Club of Public Journalism, Zvartnots International Airport in cooperation with Microsoft and Counterpart International.

The format of the event, which started in Silicon Valley, enables programmers and other specialists to find effective solutions with the help of latest technology, teamwork and close collaboration.
