Government makes efforts to promote small and medium-size entrepreneurship IT sector traditional events to be held in 2014
Armenia was the first country in Eastern Europe, which in February 2013 joined the UN Industrial Development Organization’s “Clean technologies for SMEs” worldwide program. The SME sector accounts for more than 40 percent of the country’s GDP and about 20 percent of total exports. The Government is making efforts to promote small and medium-size entrepreneurship in Armenia.
Today’s Cabinet sitting endorsed the “Clean technologies for SMEs” program between the Government Armenia and the UN Industrial Development Organization, which seeks to promote SME a clean technology-based innovative business environment, strengthen national policies aimed at strengthening SMEs and maximizing the institutional system’s potential, create a national platform, enforce a ecosystem for clean technologies, etc.
The national program’s partners are the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Nature Protection, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, and the Ministry of Agriculture. The program will be implemented with Enterprise Incubator Foundation and SME DNC, involving all the key partners, including SMEs, the business community, universities, experts and research institutions.
The Government approved a program of IT service incentives for 2014 to a total budget-funded cost of AMD80mn. The program will feature traditional events, such as Digitech Expo, Digitech Business Forum 2014, ArmTech 2014, etc.
These activities are aimed at demonstrating the achievements of the Armenian IT sector, the outcome of cooperation between the government, the private sector, academia, educational institutions and donor organizations.
