Prime Minister-affiliated Women’s Council holds gala meeting










The Prime Minister-affiliated Women’s Council held today a gala meeting at the National Art Gallery of Armenia on the awards of “Best community for solving women’s problems” and “Best woman entrepreneur,” as well as on the results of Prime Minister’s 2014 contest referred to as “Best journalist to highlight women’s issues.”

Before the official ceremony, short films were screened about the women recognized winners in these contests. Then Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Territorial Administration Armen Gevorgyan congratulated the winners in a number of nominations and handed in the Premier’s certificates of honor.

In particular, the following women were awarded in the framework of the “Best woman entrepreneur” contest in the “Best woman-employer” nomination: founder of “Isotech” company Gohar Harutyunyan from Yerevan and founder of Goris Micromotor Sona Balasanyan from Syunik province of Armenia, in the “Best woman-innovator” nomination - director-founder of “Art Sweet” company Naira Balasanyan, director of Bonus Shopping Center Liana Grigoryan from Vayots Dzor province, in “Best woman-benefactor” nomination - director-founder of “Art Bridge” Shakeh Havan-Karapetyan from Yerevan and individual entrepreneur Aitsemnik Ohanyan from Lori province, in the “Best trademark” nomination - founder of “Kara and co” Karine Avetisyan from Yerevan and director of “Golden Grape Armas Victoria Aslanyan from Aragatsotn province, in the “Best young woman-entrepreneur” - director-founder of “Ganges” Marina Nersisyan from Yerevan and individual entrepreneur Emma Margaryan from Armavir province of Armenia, in the “Best aspiring woman entrepreneur” - director-founder of EVAS Armine Muradyan from Yerevan and individual entrepreneur Nubar Sahakyan from Tavush province.

The Premier’s letters of appreciation were handed to heads of urban and rural communities, recognized winners in terms of the ratio of women and men in the composition of the Aldermen Councils in the “Best rural community for women’s issues” and “Best urban community for women's issues” nominations.

In particular, in the “Best urban community for gender issues” nomination winner was recognized Yeghvard urban community from Kotayk province, the 2nd and 3rd places went to Stepanavan urban community from Lori province and Maralik urban community from Shirak province, in the “Best rural community for gender issues” nomination winner was recognized Gomk rural community from Vaiotz-Dzor province, the 2nd and 3rd places went to Arevashat rural community of Armavir province and Aygehovit rural community from Tavush province.

For active work in the sphere of prizes were also handed to Head Geghakar rural community from Gegharkunik province Karine Martirosyan, head of Meghvahovit from Lori province Hamest Shahbazyan and member of the Council of Elders of Lichk rural community from Syunik province Taguhi Margaryan.

In order to encourage entrepreneurship and initiative of women in Armenia, a decent assessment of the achievements of women entrepreneurs in various sectors of the economy rewards certificates, special gifts and prizes were awarded by a number of international organizations: “Partnership for development of rural communities” program (USAID/PRP), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Office of UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), UN Industrial Development Program (UNIDO), German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), Asian Development Bank (ADB), International Finance Corporation (IFC), Business Office (EBRD/BSO), UNIDO “Promoting Youth Entrepreneurship in Armenia” program, “Development of enterprises and market competitiveness” (USAID/EDMC).

In the frame of the Premier’s 2014 “Best journalist to highlight women’s issues” nomination “Best idea” winner was recognized journalist of A2 TV company Arpine Tamrazyan, “Best journalism work” - Mir television and radio journalist Irina Mkrtchyan, “Violence against women” - journalist of AR TV company Karen Khachatryan, “Image of action woman” - journalist of Hetq.am website Yeranuhi Sogoyan and “Unexpected hero-woman” - journalist News.am website Inga Martinyan.

All the winning journalists were awarded honorary diplomas to the Prime Minister and ArmTab tablets of Armenian production. A special prize was awarded to journalist of Internews Ani Stepanyan.

The Vice Prime Minister congratulated all the winners and thanked them for their efficient work.
