People should make sure that the Army is up to the task
A Cabinet sitting was held today, chaired by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.
Before proceeding to the agenda, the Prime Minister proposed Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan to brief the meeting on the events that occurred a few days ago on the territory of Karvachar in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The government amended one of its previous decisions, based on the changes made to the laws “On servicemen’s and their family members’ social security” and “On State pensions,” effective from January 1, 2014.
The head of government said in this connection, “In fact, there are certain categories of retired servicemen not affected by the rises of July 1, 2014. This decision allows us to increase by about 10-50 percent the amount of bonus payments available to 12 thousand 300 disabled servicemen. In the meantime, the bonuses paid to 1250 members of the families of slain soldiers in substitution of the military pension shall be up 20 percent that will help improve the well-being of over 6500 killed servicemen family members as they will be given the opportunity to opt for a bonus instead of a second pension, the amount of which will be raised by about 50 percent.”
Approving the list of hailstorm-hit communities in Shirak and Lori provinces, the government amended a previous decree to support the affected farmers.
The Cabinet next decided that in compliance with Paragraph 13, Article 46 of the UN convention against corruption, the following public entities will act as central authorities: the Office of Prosecutor-General for pre-trial proceedings, and the Ministry of Justice for judicial proceedings and enforcement. The decision is meant to ensure compliance with Armenia’s international commitments in the aforementioned fields.
On approving the interstate roads repair priority list, the meeting noted that the list should serve as a guideline in negotiations with the World Bank and other donors.
The government next approved an action plan for the years 2014-2016 in a bid to harmonize Armenia’s migration-related legislation with the international standards, including the approaches and principles applicable in the European Union and the Common Economic Space.
The proposed measures shall bring the domestic laws on asylum and migration policies into conformity with the EU legislation and best institutional practices, facilitate the repatriation and reintegration of Armenian citizens, check the emerging streams of irregular migration, streamline the legal framework on employment of foreign nationals and the border delivery and asylum-related legislation, as well as ensure a better protection and advocacy for the rights of migrant workers from Armenia in the Common Economic Space-member States.
The Cabinet earmarked AMD 15.4 million for organizing the “Chess in educational system” symposium.
The meeting approved the result of rector election and appointed David Muradyan to the post of Rector of the Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinema.
On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, the Premier congratulated the newly elected rector and wished him successful work.
