In April 2014, the Government approved a program for restoration of stocks of trout and integrated development of fishing at Lake Sevan, which created Sevan Trout UAB. In order to implement the program the necessary land plots have been allocated with an area of 120 hectares in the community of Karchakhpyur and 60 hectares in the community of Lichk respectively. The first step is to found a fry breeding facility in the administrative territory of Karchakhpyur. To study on the spot provided for the development of fish breeding territories Hovik Abrahamyan left Cakkar for the aforementioned villages.
In the community Lichk, the Prime Minister visited the former fish farm of the village which used be the largest factory of Gegharkunik Marz, which was breeding fry (trout and Varicorhinus sieboldi). Currently on the territory of GOS JSC crayfish is being bred by exporting them mainly to Russia. This year, however, the company had problems with exports, as Russia has banned the import of products of several companies due to e. coli. The recently held on-site inspection by Rosselkhoznadzor revealed that the products of the company are in full compliance with the requirements and received praise from reviewers.
At the request of the Director of GOS JSC, the Prime Minister promised to assist with rapid resolution of the issue so that the company might be able to resume exporting crayfish.
In Karchakhpyur Hovik Abrahamyan bypassed the area for founding fry breeding farms. It was noted that the overall programme output will be about 60 million pieces, 25 percent of which will be immediately available in the Lake. It is planned to breed exclusively endemic species of fish in Sevan - gegharkuni and summer bakhtak. The working visit of the Prime Minister in Gegharkunik ended in the community of Tsovinar.
The head of government visited a rural cultivation area under wheat. In the field he met with peasants, listened to their concerns, in particular those relating to the irrigation of cultivated areas, the purchase of agricultural machinery (combine harvesters) on preferential terms and other issues.
Hovik Abrahamyan, discussed all the issues raised and assured that the government will possibly contribute to their solution. To sum up, the head of government instructed Governor of Gegharkunik Marz Rafik Grigoryan to explore the possibility of irrigating fields in Tsovinar (the presence of deep water wells) and report back the results.
