Government provides for successful start of new academic year







A Cabinet sitting was held today, chaired by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.

Opening the meeting, the Prime Minister asked Minister of Education and Science Minister Armen Ashotyan to report back steps in preparation for the new academic year.

In order to reward the winners of Best Educator and Best Teacher competitions with a motorcar each, the Government allocated AMD 12,700mn. The awards will be handed in on September 1 - the Teacher’s Day.

The Government granted a 3-year extension of Temporary Import customs regime for the goods and equipment imported by Nivekotrans A.M. CJSC. The Armenia branch office of Corsan-Corviam Construccion S.A is implementing the North-South transport corridor road rehabilitation and improvement activities, co-financed by the Asian Development Bank and the Republic of Armenia. Nivekotrans A.M. CJSC, which is the sub-contractor, has imported state-of-the-art engineering equipment and, therefore, was granted the above 3-year extension.

Considering the importance of Iran-Armenia 400 kV overhead power transmission line, the Government recognized the status of exclusive and prevailing public interest with regard to plots of land owned by a number of financial and legal persons operating in Kotayk, Gegharkunik, Vayots-Dzor and Syunik provinces of Armenia. The plots of land were selected account taken of the applicable construction and maintenance standards, settlements location, historical monuments, wildlife conservation areas and bypassing infrastructure.

The Government approved the Social Protection Administration Project-II funding agreement as signed on May 23, 2014 between the Republic of Armenia and the International Development Association, under which the Armenia will get a USD 21,200 million loan to ensure proper implementation of the ongoing reform in the field of social protection. The Government is supposed to provide 20% co-financing by means of tax exemptions. The program will be implemented in 2014-2018.

The Ministry of Culture was allocated around AMD 8 million to transfer to Chekijyan Foundation the amounts needed for Armenia’s State Academic Choir to cover the flight costs to Istanbul. The Choir will be touring with concerts dated to Hovhannes Chekijyan’s 85th birth anniversary.

The Ministry of Culture was next provided AMD 110 million to fund two full-length fiction films, entitled “Vartabed’s Silence” and “Qarvachar” respectively.
