Attended by Prime Minister, “Armenia - regional center of jewelry” investment forum kicks off
Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan attended today the opening of an investment forum entitled “Armenia - regional center of jewelry.”
It is organized jointly by the Development Fund of Industry and the World Union of Armenian Jewelers in the framework of the 4th international jewelry exhibition referred to as “Yerevan Show – 2014.”
Welcoming the organizers, participants and guests of the forum on behalf of his government and himself, the Prime Minister said that the forum will promote jewelry in Armenia and investment. According to Hovik Abrahamyan, in Armenia jewelry was developed back in the distant past, and the work of Armenian jewelers were known all over the world.
“The Government of Armenia attaches importance and pays special attention to the development of jewelry, production of diamonds and watch making. As part of the strategy approved by the Government for the export-oriented industrial policy, the Industry Council under the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia has set as strategic areas the production of diamonds and watch making, and ensures the implementation of a relevant program of action, the purpose of which is the conversion of Armenia into a global node. For further development of jewelry a new stimulus will be Armenia’s joining the Eurasian Economic Union, which will give local companies significant opportunities to expand the sales markets and get high-quality raw materials,” the Prime Minister noted.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of creating a free economic zone of jewelry called Meridian, noting that a favorable tax and customs environment has been created for the development of jewelry and that through effective public-private sector interaction steps are being taken to properly present jewelry products on the international marketplace.
The Prime Minister reiterated the readiness of the Government to raise the sector through joint efforts to such a level that will make everyone admire Armenian jewelry art.
The investment forum is attended by about 300 sector representatives from our country and abroad.
