PM Receives World Bank Vice President
Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan received a delegation led by World Bank Europe and Central Asia Vice President Laura Tuck.
Welcoming the guests, the Prime Minister appreciated the more than 20-year-old cooperation with the World Bank that has led to significant progress in the country’s socio-economic development, reform and human capacity building processes.
Hovik Abrahamyan thanked the World Bank for sizeable financial and technical assistance provided to that end.
Describing the Prime Minister’s working visit to the United States as quite successful and effective, the parties discussed the future course of the Country Partnership Strategy for Armenia (2014-2017).
Among Armenia’s economic development priorities, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of energy, agriculture and road network improvement projects.
Both sides pointed to the need to uphold the pace of reforms in the fields of social protection, inspection, aviation and tax administration, as well as to ensure continuity in the steps aimed at improving the business environment.
Noting that Armenia is the Bank’s reliable and strategic partner, the World Bank Vice President appreciated our country’s excellent loan portfolio performance. Laura Tuck underscored that the World Bank is ready to continue backing both the ongoing programs and the priority areas.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to broader cooperation with the Bank, Hovik Abrahamyan assured that our programs would continue to boast the highest level of performance in the region nurturing economic development and reducing poverty.
During the meeting, Hovik Abrahamyan and Laura Tuck exchanged views on other issues relevant to bilateral cooperation.
