Border Communities to Get Compensation
An extraordinary Cabinet meeting was held today, chaired by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.
The Government approved the bill “On Welfare Support for Border Communities,” which streamlines the process of rendering assistance to Government-approved 31 border communities.
The bill stipulates that those permanent residents of border communities featuring on the community registry will get partial refund from the State budget for natural gas, electricity and irrigation water fees. The amount and order of reimbursement for each year shall be determined by the Government.
The next Article of the draft provides that the above-mentioned persons will get partial tax refund for land and real estate located in the given community.
Prime Minister Abrahamyan said that adequate funding will also be made available to those households not using gas to ensure that they have alternative sources of heating.
Those community residents left homeless due to hostilities unleashed by Azerbaijan will get adequate housing in the same community within one month using funds allocated from the State budget.
Those Armenian citizens injured from mine explosion or due to military operations undertaken by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces will be treated free of charge under State order. The families of deceased citizens shall be offered lump-sum assistance as prescribed by the Government to cover burial, grave improvement and gravestone installation costs.
The bill will come into force on January 1, 2015, and will be effective until January 1, 2018.
The draft law will be submitted to the National Assembly for consideration at the upcoming extraordinary sitting of the National Assembly.
