Prime Minister: Armenia to continue with the customs reform
Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan received World Customs Organization Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya.
Pleased with the ongoing effective cooperation, the Prime Minister said their meeting was a good opportunity to discuss customs reform and future plans.
Hovik Abrahamyan stressed that the customs reform implemented in recent years had yielded tangible results. According to the World Bank’s Doing Business report for 2014, Armenia has improved its position by 4 points moving to the 45th place from the 49th.
Welcoming the Government’s reform policy in the field of tax and customs administration, Kunio Mikuriya noted that our country has recorded significant progress since his first visit in 2009. In particular, he hailed the introduction of modern high-tech equipment, staff training, the recent improvements to the Customs Code in line with international standards.
As they referred to the ongoing and future joint projects, the parties concurred in that the ongoing customs reform should lead to improved business environment and a more competitive economy.
Noting that there is still a lot to do, and that the Government will continue with the tax and customs reform, the Prime Minister stressed the need to strengthen and deepen bilateral cooperation with the World Customs Organization.
