PM Welcomes Armenia-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee Members
Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan received Armenia-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee members who are in Yerevan to attend the 15th session of Armenia-European Union Committee on March 19-20, 2015.
The Prime Minister advised that this week there have been a number of high-level Armenia-EU meetings, which contribute to the strengthening and consolidation of bilateral cooperation. Hovik Abrahamyan said that the government will do everything to expand business relations between Armenia and the European Union and enhance political and economic cooperation.
Head of the EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee delegation Sajjad Karim thanked the Premier for a warm welcome and introduced the results of Armenia-European Union Committee’s 15th session. Mr Karim expressed satisfaction with the constructive work done and noted that the results exceeded his expectations. He expressed the hope that Armenia-EU cooperation will continue to move forward successfully on the solid platform available. Coming to Armenia’s efforts toward the establishment of democratic values, Sajjad Karim appreciated the activities of civil society and the level of freedom of speech.
The sides exchanged views on regional issues. Prime Minister Abrahamyan said that Armenia has always been committed to the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the OSCE Minsk Group format. In the meantime, the Prime Minister said that Azerbaijan continues to escalate the situation with its bellicose statements and acts of sabotage, which is a threat to regional stability and security.
In conclusion, the Prime Minister thanked the European Parliament members for the European Parliament’s resolution adopted on March 12, which urges the EU-member States to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
