Regional Administrations Submit Performance Reports for 2014




Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, the Government discussed regional administrations’ performance reports in line with the Government’s program of activities and priorities for 2014.

Reports were submitted by all Marz governors. In attendance were Minister of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situations Armen Yeritsyan and Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan.

The Governors reported back the activities and achievements in the fields of infrastructure, agriculture, industry, housing construction and modernization, rehabilitation of schools, water supply, as well as construction of cultural facilities and in other areas. Reference was also made to revenue collection and the status of various investment programs.

The Head of Government instructed the Governors to continue with the steps aimed at infrastructure development, investment and job creation. Prime Minister Abrahamyan stressed that the Government is prepared to make use of various tools in order to help local businessmen successfully implement the programs. Hovik Abrahamyan expressed confidence that the recent merger of the Ministries of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situations will promote effective cooperation of between the Government and local authorities aimed at developing and strengthening communities.

It was reported that the year 2014 was marked by some growth in the production of various agricultural products and despite the adverse weather conditions early in the year, farmers continued working successfully with the support of the Government.

The speakers stressed the efficiency of the State-supported program of provision of affordable seeds, fertilizers and diesel fuel, which significantly contributed to the development of agriculture. The meeting took the opportunity to discuss progress in the spring agricultural campaign.

Hovik Abrahamyan noted the importance of their effective implementation and stressed that agriculture is one of the priorities of the Government. Speaking of the ongoing agricultural programs, Hovik Abrahamyan stressed that the Government is well prepared to the irrigation season and everything will be done to ensure that irrigation activities could be implemented better than last year.

At the same time, the Prime Minister emphasized that the demand for tomatoes in the Republic is great, and the Government is ready to contribute to the processors and discuss any financial issue concerning the purchase of all the products supplied by the farms.

“We will help the processing plants to purchase and process as many tomatoes as the farms may supply. Tomatoes are in great demand, and the Government stands ready to fund this program. I expect better results in agriculture in 2015, since there will be larger financial injections in that area this year. For better implementation of the proposed programs I look forth to the joint work of the Governors and the relevant ministries,” the Head of Government concluded.

Summarizing the discussion, the Prime Minister praised the work of regional administrations as a whole and assured of the Government’s support for the local self-government authorities.
Hovik Abrahamyan noted the important role of local authorities in the development of the country and noted that the regions and communities will be the focus of daily attention of the Government. Speaking of the enlargement of communities, the Premier pointed out that the correct path has been chosen, and the consolidation of communities will lead to coordinated management, efficient allocation of financial resources and investments.

The discussion also touched upon the regional administrations’ programs for 2015. The Prime Minister pointed to the importance of active, coordinated action in all spheres and efficient implementation of the Government’s program of activities.
