Great Patriotic War Victory 70-Year Celebration Jubilee Committee Holds Meeting
Chaired by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, the Great Patriotic War Victory 70-year Celebration Jubilee Committee met in the Office of Government to discuss the commemorative events planned throughout the year.
According to the program, on May 9, celebrations will be held in Victory Park in Yerevan to pay tribute to the Unknown Soldier; there will be held a military parade and concert program.
On the same day, a ceremonious concert will be held at Republic Square, accompanied by fireworks at which 70 volleys will be fired. A delegation of Armenian war veterans will attend Victory Day 70th anniversary celebrations in Moscow.
A workshop will be organized during the year; academic articles will be published, exhibitions and commemorative events will be held at Mother Armenia and other museums dedicated to the Great Patriotic War. In addition, celebration literature will be published on the occasion.
Victory-dedicated films will be screened in Yerevan and the provinces, theatrical performances will be staged. Military units, higher educational institutions and secondary schools will host meetings with the participation of veterans. Essay contests referred to as “We are the generations of Victory” will be held in army units and secondary schools.
A Tribute Month will be announced during which landscaping and beautification activities will be implemented at Great Patriotic War memorial sites, monuments and memorial compounds nationwide.
Throughout the year, the Great Patriotic War veterans will get guaranteed State-supported medical care. They will also qualify for free resorts and vacation homes.
Thanking the Prime Minister for the Government’s decision to double the amount of veterans’ monthly honorary benefit, Veterans Association NGO President Simon Yesayan said it gad been accepted with great enthusiasm by the Veterans.
In conclusion, Prime Minister Abrahamian issued a series of instructions to the relevant government agencies to ensure high-level organization of celebrations.
