RA Police 2014 Performance Report Discussed
Chaired by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, the Government discussed the RA Police-submitted report on key activities and priority tasks in 2014 in compliance with the Government’s Action Plan, as well as the estimated performance report.
Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan reported on the work carried out in specific areas in the period under review. Vladimir Gasparyan noted that efforts were launched in 2014 and continued in 2015 toward implementing various programs and measures to intensify the fight against crime, improve the delivery of services to citizens, modernize and improve the technical equipment of the system, ensuring transparency in its activities.
Within the framework of the Government’s action plan for 2014, a package of draft laws on amendments to the laws of the Republic of Armenia “On identification cards” and “On Republic of Armenia citizen’s passport” were drafted and submitted for approval.
Within the framework of the priorities of the Government, relevant studies and analyses were carried out concerning the introduction the new model of patrol service with a view to ensuring efficient maintenance of public order and security.
The police chief noted that during the year under review, a process was launched nationwide aimed at introducing the new model of municipal police, which was approved in the year 2014 by a government decree, the number of inspectors in high schools has increased by 47 people, the transition to the system of identity cards and passports containing biometric data is practically complete, the citizens have been offered the opportunity of 24-hour passport service at border crossings, including on non-working days, technical improvements have been made to the system of Registry Office.
The scope of cooperation with international organizations and foreign counterparts has been expanded. Programs have been implemented to improve the welfare conditions of Armenian policemen.
After hearing the report, the Prime Minister referred to the activities scheduled for this year and, in this regard, noted the importance of continued implementation of reforms aimed at modernizing and building capacity in the Police and improving the quality of public services.
