Foreign Affairs Ministry Submits 2014 Performance Report
Chaired by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, the Government discussed the Foreign Affairs Ministry-submitted report on key activities and priority tasks in 2014 in compliance with the Government’s Action Plan, as well as the Ministry’s estimated performance report. Reference was also made to the tasks and activities set for the year 2015.
Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan reported that all the way through 2014, based on the guidelines and instructions issued by the President of the Republic of Armenia, the Foreign Ministry continued to work toward the strengthening of Armenia’s security component, providing guarantees and favorable external conditions for the development of the nation, deepening involvement in international organizations and processes.
It was noted that the most important event of the year was the successful completion of the Eurasian Economic Union accession process, which is in Armenia’s strategic interests and may open up new opportunities for economic development. In this context, the Foreign Minister referred to the efforts aimed at expanding and strengthening relations with different countries, the agreements reached and their results.
The speaker said Armenia continued to deepen its engagement within the UN. Great attention was paid to the cooperation with the Council of Europe, the OSCE, the International Organization of Francophonie, as well as in other international and regional organizations. Reference was made to the reciprocated high-level visits paid in the period under review.
Edward Nalbandyan said that in accordance with the Prime Minister’s recommendation, Armenian embassies made active efforts to attract investment from abroad by formulating a number of practical suggestions for the host countries’ business circles and introducing Armenia’s business climate and investment opportunities.
The following instruments were signed in 2014: 85 international treaties and agreements and 29 other documents; 78 intergovernmental and interstate documents were ratified and 41 entered into force in the reporting period. At the Ministry’s initiative, some 75 drafts of legal acts were developed and subsequently approved by the Government.
Summing up the discussion, the Prime Minister prioritized the Foreign Ministry’s proactive and innovative efforts both in terms of bilateral and multilateral relations. The head of government highlighted the need for ensuring continued presentation of Armenia’s investment opportunities and achieving higher quality in services provided to citizens.
