Cabinet Members Pay Homage to Great Benefactor

A Cabinet sitting was held today, chaired by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.

Before proceeding to the agenda, the Prime Minister offered condolences on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Armenia to RA National Hero Kirk Kerkorian’s family, close relatives, friends and all Armenians. The meeting participants observed a minute of silence in memory of Kirk Kerkorian.

The Government donated the building of Meghri Medical Center’s Infection Unit, located at Meghri M. Ohandjanyan 92/1, and the adjacent plot of land to the Municipality of Meghri as a residential building. The building is to be reconstructed in order to accommodate those fire-affected families previously domiciled at Meghri, Andranik Street N7, as well as those young households in need of housing and currently registered with the Municipality.

The Government amended two of its standing decisions to allow SME Investments UCO to extend the loan repayment deadlines specified in the loan agreements signed with the Ministry of Finance until the year 2026. This will allow the organization to continue to provide rural communities and farmers with agricultural equipment, harvesters, tractors and other equipment on the basis of financial leasing with a 10-year maturity and on preferential terms.

The Government passed 3 decisions to establish the procedures to follow in providing adequate compensation, assistance, emergency food and essential goods to such natural and legal persons as may have suffered from emergency situations or actions aimed at eliminating the consequences of emergency situations, including the use of citizens’ property during a state of emergency. No government resolution had been passed so far to streamline the above relationships. The aforementioned 3 decisions stem from the Law on State of Emergency, effective since 2012.

The Cabinet accepted the proposal to sign a framework arrangement between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The agreement stipulates those basic terms and conditions under which the FAO will assist the Government of the Republic of Armenia with the implementation of joint projects, as well as establishes the legal status of FAO Armenia Mission and the sides’ liabilities.

The meeting next accepted the proposal to sign an agreement between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden on cooperation in the fields of education and research. The document will enable the two countries to exchange know-how through reciprocated visits of scholars, teachers, tutors, students and pupils.
