PM Attends Opening of Olympic Village
Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan participated in the opening of the new-built Olympic Village in Yerevan, which was attended by National Olympic Committees Association President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah and President of the European Olympic Committee Patrick Hickey, Armenia National Olympic Committee (NOC) President Gagik Tsarukyan, public officials, sports figures and guests.
The Prime Minister toured the premises getting acquainted with the approximately 7500 square meter-wide Olympic Village, which is intended for over 300 athletes. During the tour, the Premier was shown the wrestling, judo, taekwondo, boxing, wrestling and playing sports lounges, as well as the medical and doping service centers.
The Olympic Village’s Team Training Center, which meets the best international standards, boasts individual facilities for single and gaming events, as well as for water sports, with a hotel complex designed for 320 athletes. In addition to specialized gymnasiums, the Village will offer a swimming pool and several playgrounds. The Olympic Village will have all the necessary conditions for training.
Later on, attended by the Prime Minister, a stamp dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s National Olympic Committee was put into circulation.
The Olympic Village is expected to accommodate Armenia’s National Olympic Committee staff. Note that the construction of the Village kicked off as early as in 2013.
