Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan Attends CIS Council of Heads of Government Meeting
On October 30, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan attended a regular meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
The Prime Minister’s delegation consists of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of International Economic Integration and Reforms Vache Gabrielyan, Deputy Minister Suren Karayan, Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan.
The heads of delegations first met with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in the Nation’s Palace, after which they met in narrow format in the palace of Nowruz, followed by a meeting in expanded format.
The meeting discussed about 30 issues concerning the development and expansion of trade and economic cooperation, deepening of interaction in social, financial, legal and humanitarian spheres.
In particular, the Council reviewed the Action Plan on implementation of the third stage (2016-2020) of the Strategy of Economic Development of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the period up to 2020, which is supposed to tap on the member countries’ scientific, technical and educational potential, work out infrastructure programs, promote economic development and energy projects, develop high-tech and transportation systems, interregional cooperation, enhance competitive policies, protect consumers’ interests, as well as bolster interaction in agriculture and other spheres.
The heads of government discussed issues related to the implementation of steps envisaged under the Free Trade Zone Agreement of October 18, 2011. The meeting approved the program of actions dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The prime ministers of CIS countries signed a number of instruments aimed at strengthening and deepening cooperation.
It was decided that the next meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of Government should be held next May in Kyrgyzstan. Later today, Hovik Abrahamyan is expected to meet face to face with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev.
