Prime Minister Pays Working Visit to Syunik Marz
Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan traveled today to Syunik Marz of Armenia on a working visit.
The Prime Minister’s visit started in the town of Meghri, Syunik region, and in particular, Meghri Regional Medical Center, which is being modernized under the World Bank-funded Health System Modernization Project. Hovik Abrahamyan toured the medical center getting acquainted with the ingoing construction activities.
The Prime Minister was informed that the modernization project featured various infrastructure repairs and installation work. The Center is currently being furnished with modern medical equipment, furniture and medical supplies. A total of over AMD 1 billion 618 million-worth investment has been made under the Meghri Regional Medical Center loan program, of which 385.2 million (24 percent) provided by the Government of Armenia and 1 billion 233 million - by the World Bank (76 percent).
Fully compliant with the population international standards, the refurbished multi-profile medical center will provide high-quality, affordable and modern medical services to the population of Meghri region of Syunik Marz.
The Prime Minister’s next stop was at Agarak town, where the head of government attended the opening ceremony of the reconstructed Art School, toured the site getting acquainted with the ongoing activities.
The renovation of the Art School was co-financed by Armenia’s Social Investment Fund, Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine CJSC and the town hall of Agarak. The project’s total cost is AMD 137 million, of which AMD 102 million contributed by Armenia’s Social Investment Fund. Designed for 208 pupils, the Art School is equipped with new furniture and provided with adequate staff (30 teachers) and musical instruments.
During the working visit, the Premier met with the leadership of Agarak Copper Molybdenum Combine CJSC. The company’s executives briefed the Prime Minister on their development programs, noting that even amid international market price fluctuations of non-ferrous metals the Company managed to maintain staff salaries and the plant’s output capacity, The management asked the Prime Minister to support the enterprise so that it might keep operating with the same capacity.
Hovik Abrahamyan noted that the mining sector plays a major role in the development of the economy, and the Government is prepared to discuss the possibility of assistance in order to ensure the normal operation of the plant.
As part of his working visit to Syunik Marz, the Prime Minister met with the residents of Meghri, Agarak, Kapan and Sisian towns to get a first-hand view of their concerns and priority problems. Hovik Abrahamyan noted that the policy of harmonious regional development is among his government’s priorities, and the Government will continue to implement various programs aimed at rural development.
