Today RA Prime Minister A. Margaryan has received the delegation headed by Mr. Yuri Luzhkov, Mayor of Moscow.
Pointing out to the present high level of relationship between Armenia and the Russian Federation, the parties have stressed the necessity of establishing closer ties of cooperation between the RA government and various administrative units of the Russian Federation and Moscow, in particular. Mr. A. Margaryan advised that in line with the understanding reached during his official visit to Moscow this summer, the individual composition of the commission for the coordination of cooperation between the central government of Armenia and Moscow city administration in the fields of economy and commerce, scientific research, culture and arts had been approved by a Prime Minister's decree and a draft program of cooperation was being designed. He indicated that the first meeting of the commission was scheduled for early 2005.
Appreciative of the warm reception offered to his delegation and himself during this visit, Mr. Luzhkov said to be satisfied with the current status of the talks held with the RA government and Yerevan municipality and the state of affairs in the design and implementation of joint programs. In this context, he mentioned the successful performance in Armenia of the Slavonic University as witnessed by himself following a persoanl visit to the University. He expressed the belief that the agreement signed today between the government of Yerevan and that of Moscow on cooperation in 2005-2007 was a milestone on this path. "We have a clear idea of the steps to take in the economic, scientific, cultural and other fields: the preparatory stage can be said to have been a success and it is now time we proceeded to action,"
