PM: “Government will continue to support IT sector development-targeted programs”
Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan attended the opening ceremony of the 16th annual congress of the Union of IT Enterprises (UITE) of Armenia.
Addressing the participants of the Congress, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan said the Government appreciates the important role played by the Union of Information Technology Enterprises in the implementation of programs and initiatives aimed at developing the IT sector. According to Hovik Abrahamyan, in order to prepare highly qualified specialists in this area the Government is cooperating with the UITE to in an effort to create robotics and engineering clubs in public schools. In addition, the Government and UITE are currently conducting preparatory work for hosting the 2019 World IT Forum in Armenia.
“Our cooperation will be continued. We are open for discussion and implementation of new joint projects and initiatives. The IT sector is one of the fastest growing industries in Armenia, and what matters most is that it is among the Government’s priorities. There is great potential in Armenia’s IT sector and we need to foster its realization,” the Premier said. Hovik Abrahamyan noted that the IT industry has been boasting a 20-22% growth in recent years, which is facilitated by the Government’s efficient policy.
According to the Premier, innovative solutions in the fields of information and high technologies and telecommunications have been successfully applied in different sectors of the economy, which can largely promote economic progress through increased productivity and competitiveness.
“At the same time, we cannot be satisfied with the present achievements and will continue to support all IT sector development-targeted programs. We will back any reasonable initiative aimed at developing information technology in our country,” the Prime Minister emphasized, wishing fruitful work to the participants.
The Launch of Engineering Laboratories in Armenia’s Public Schools program was presented during the congress. To this end, a cooperation memorandum was signed between the Government and the UITE. The document was signed by Minister of Education and Science Levon Mkrtchyan and UITE Executive Director Karen Vardanyan.
