Prime Minister Receives IRI Energy Minister



Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan received Minister of Energy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iranian co-chair of the Intergovernmental Commission Hamid Chitchian. The Minister of Energy of Iran arrived in Armenia to participate in quadripartite Iran-Armenia-Georgia-Russia energy cooperation meeting, which was due to be held on April 13 in Yerevan. The Prime Minister welcomed the visit of the Minister of Energy of Iran to Armenia, noting that reciprocal high-level visits contribute to strengthening the friendship between the two peoples and the development of the multifaceted Armenian-Iranian relations.

In the context of deepening bilateral trade and economic cooperation, Hovik Abrahamyan stressed the importance of the activities of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission between the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran, while expressing satisfaction with the active cooperation of the Commission co-chairs.

The Prime Minister welcomed the quadripartite meeting in Yerevan, Armenia-Iran-Russia-Georgia, dedicated to energy cooperation, which, he said, will contribute to the development of energy cooperation in the region and implementation of joint programs

Mr. Chitchian conveyed warm greetings on behalf of the First Deputy President of Iran Es’haq Jahangiri and noted the importance of the quadripartite meeting in Yerevan, Armenia-Iran-Russia-Georgia, dedicated to energy cooperation. Iranian Energy Minister said that the development of cooperation in this format contributes to the deepening of regional integration, improvement of energy sustainability and strengthening regional security. Hamid Chitchian praised the work of the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental commission as a productive and noted the importance of continuing steps to further deepen bilateral friendly relations.

The interlocutors discussed issues related to the further implementation of joint programs in the field of energy, the work of the intergovernmental commission, as well as bilateral and multilateral cooperation in these areas.

The parties expressed satisfaction with development of relations in tourism and, in this context, discussed simplification of visa regime. Hovik Abrahamyan conveyed warm greetings to First Deputy President of Iran Es’haq Jahangiri and expressed confidence that close cooperation between the governments of the two countries will contribute to the successful implementation of joint programs.
