Welcoming the participants, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan stated in part, “This event, which is organized for the 9th time, is an important platform to present achievements of the technological sphere, identify new business and investment opportunities, and promote cooperation and exchange of experience. The IT sector is one of the fastest growing industries in Armenia. Sustained tangible progress has been recorded in recent years: with an average of 20-22 percent growth stated each year. IT companies are today creating high added value in the economy and make Armenia competitive in world markets.
The Government of Armenia together with the private sector has a number of spheres aimed at development of the technology ecosystem in Armenia initiatives that bring in foreign investment, help provide quality training and open up increased opportunities, stimulate entrepreneurship, create new companies and jobs.
As you may know, the Government initiated a legislative package as approved by the National Assembly in 2014, which seeks to provide State support to registered IT startups through a set of tax privileges available from 2015, It is my pleasure to note that in just one year we had 111 new companies, 98 of which received certificates for the use of tax incentives, creating a total of 470 jobs.
We attach great importance to the fact that Armenian companies have grown from outsourcing entities into leading organizations engaged in research and development and offering sophisticated integrated solutions, released that competitive technological products are realized on both external and domestic markets.
Today Armenia has significant competitive advantages in the field of information technologies as compared with the countries of the region and other countries. The latest solutions in the fields of information, telecommunication and high technologies are successfully applied in various sectors of the economy, contributing to the general progress of the economy, increasing their productivity and competitiveness. Digitec provides also an important incentive to improve the use of technology in different sectors of the economy.”
Note that intending to use the IT potential with a view to facilitating the development of the military industry system; the Union of Information Technology Enterprises is organizing professional discussions on cooperation of the military-industrial complex and the technological sphere this year in the framework of Digitec business forum.
The forum will bring together IT representatives and experts from other sectors of the economy. They will discuss and present practical proposals for the development of other sectors of the Armenian economy.
