PM Attends “European business prospects, constraints and opportunities in Armenia” conference
Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan attended the “European business prospects, constraints and opportunities in Armenia” conference, hosted by the European Business Association.
Welcoming the guests, the Premier stressed the importance of holding events like that and noted: “The presence of business community, as well as a broad representation of economic policy makers at this event makes me expect an active and constructive discussion on all agenda items.
The Government has been consistent in implementing a policy aimed at making Armenia more attractive in terms of business environment. We have proclaimed and are consistently implementing a policy of “open doors,” which implies almost no restrictions on investment activities. Our efforts have been highly appreciated by international organizations. We pursue a policy which aims to ensure equal conditions for everyone. Foreign companies may feel safe and comfortable in Armenia.
Armenia can become a bridge between the Eurasian Economic Union and EU-member States on the one hand, considering the opportunities offered by our country’s adherence to the Eurasian Economic Union and, on the other hand, its access to a GSP + preferential trade regime with the European Union. In addition, Armenia enjoys a GSP preferential trade regime applicable with Canada, Switzerland, Japan and Norway.
Another possibility is the recently signed framework agreement on trade and investment between the United States of America and the Republic of Armenia, which creates favorable conditions for trade and investment between the two countries.
We are paying special attention to investment projects in order to support new jobs, attract investments by offering a wide range of business benefits. In this context, I believe that the activities of the European Business Association in Armenia will help attract investment, promote the business community’s interests and develop a public-private sector dialogue. In conclusion, I wish you every success and productive activity.”
