Armenian Prime Minister Meets Kazakh Counterpart
Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received a delegation led by Kazakhstan Prime Minister Bakitzhan Sagintaev who is in Armenia to attend a session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
Welcoming the guest, the Prime Minister said that 2016 is a symbolic year for both Armenia and Kazakhstan as the two countries are celebrating the 25th anniversary of independence.
“We are partners in the Eurasian region, and I think we have great potential of cooperation. I would like to assure you that we are open for cooperation, and today’s meeting is a good opportunity to move forward and identify trends,” Karen Karapetyan pointed out.
Thankful for a warm welcome, Bakitzhan Sagintaev noted that Kazakhstan is keen to develop bilateral cooperation with Armenia. “We boast a mutually beneficial constructive dialogue at all levels. Strong ties of cooperation have been established in the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union. We have the desire and opportunity to upgrade bilateral economic relations,” the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan said.
The prime ministers of Armenia and Kazakhstan looked at ways of deepening economic and trade relations. Karen Karapetyan said the new government of Armenia has embraced a foreign investment-conducive policy and is taking specific steps to create a favorable business environment for foreign investors.
Welcoming the willingness of the Armenian Government to create a favorable environment for foreign investors, Bakitzhan Sagintaev stressed that it is a good signal and an opportunity for the development of trade and business ties between the two countries.
The Premiers exchanged views on the furtherance of interaction in both bilateral and EEU formats in the fields of agriculture, tourism, air transport and energy. The parties agreed upon the need to reinvigorate the activities of the Armenian-Kazakh intergovernmental economic commission. In this context, they highlighted the strengthening of business ties and the possibility of holding a joint business forum and an exposition to that end.
According to Karen Karapetyan, the intergovernmental commission, the business forums and expositions may provide a good platform to promote business linkages and carry out investment projects of mutual interest. The parties discussed other issues of mutual interest.
