Further Development of Armenia-Iran Economic Ties Discussed
Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Armenia Seyed Kazem Sadjadi.
Noting that Armenia and Iran have traditionally enjoyed friendly ties of close partnership, the Prime Minister said it is necessary to go beyond the existing level and take further steps to develop mutually beneficial cooperation. In this context, Karen Karapetyan highlighted the construction of the third Iran-Armenia 400 kV power transmission line, Noravank substation, gas distribution networks in Armenia’s border communities, as well as the ongoing Gas for Electricity project. The head of the Armenian government said prospective ties of cooperation might be built up in Iran-Armenia-Georgia-Russia quadrilateral format.
Coming to the North-South Highway project, the Premier said Iranian companies might get involved, if interested. As Karen Karapetyan pointed out, Armenia and Iran have huge potential to increase trade turnover and make new investments in different sectors, including agriculture, telecommunications, tourism, healthcare and other sectors.
Seyed Kazem Sadjadi expressed willingness to closely cooperate with the Government in a bid to implement mutually beneficial projects, contributing thereby to the furtherance of economic ties. Noting the importance of increased trade turnover, the Ambassador expressed confidence that the recent exposition of Tehran as attended by over 100 Armenian companies might advance the establishment of a free economic zone in Meghri.
Karen Karapetyan and Seyed Kazem Sadjadi took the opportunity to look at other issues on the agenda of the Armenian-Iranian relationship.
