Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received the delegation of Armenia-accredited EU Ambassadors, led by Head of EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Peter Switalski.

Noting the importance of a frank, open dialogue and cooperation in all areas, the Prime Minister stressed the need to share experience and inculcate European culture and practices in our country in the fields of business management, fight against corruption, protection of human rights and judicial reform.

With regard to the Government Program, the Premier said his government’s main task is to provide a level and equitable business environment in order to promote investment programs. He advised that several foundations are going to be set up to support proactive businesses and motivate law-abiding taxpayers. Prioritizing the change in the culture of management, Karen Karapetyan said he saw no other way to develop the country but to combat corruption and the shadow economy in all directions.

In this regard, the Premier advised that the Government of Armenia will come up with specific legislative initiatives aimed at fighting against corruption. The composition of the Anticorruption Council will be changed to involve civil society representatives.

“In the near future, we will create a center of strategic initiatives and reforms, which in addition to representatives of the Armenian government will involve partners from around the world whose knowledge and experience are important to us. They will outline the reforms that are needed in our country,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

Thankful for the reception, Peter Switalski said they were impressed by the ambitions of the Prime Minister and the Armenian government, the reform agenda, and added that it was the key to Armenia’s bright future. The Ambassador stressed that, as Armenia’s partner, the European Union is prepared to help develop our country’s economy through a better business environment, tax and customs administration.

Regarding the fight against corruption, Peter Switalski said to be impressed by the Government’s ambitious package of measures, and expressed willingness to cooperate in this area. He stressed the importance of joint efforts toward improving the electoral process, ensuring the independence of the judiciary, protecting human rights and implementing reforms.
