Sustainable Development Goals nationalization process kicks off: interagency working group holds its first meeting
Co-hosted by the RA Government Staff and the UN Office in Armenia, the Sustainable Development Goals Nationalization interagency working group (IWG) held its first meeting on March 7, 2017. The event was attended by representatives of government institutions, civil society and international partners.
Interagency Working Group Chairman Vahe Stepanyan welcomed and congratulated the members and guests on the launch of the process of nationalization of Sustainable Development Goals. Noting the importance of Sustainable Development Goals, the speaker said their implementation will help develop the economy, environmental policies, welfare and legal areas.
Welcoming speeches were delivered by Deputy Foreign Minister Ashot Hovakimyan and UN Resident Coordinator Bradley Busetto.
Director of the Government Center for Strategic Initiatives Alexander Khachaturyan presented the Center’s programs, noting that they are in line with the objectives of the sustainable development nationalization process. The Center for Strategic Initiatives will serve as an open platform for all stakeholders in this process. Deputy Chairman of Interagency Working Group Vahram Kazhoyan presented the road map and the breakdown of the objectives.
Statements were made by IWG members Karine Danielyan, Yuri Poghosyan, UN Organization for Migration representative Karine Kuyumjyan and EV Consulting company expert Gagik Gabrielyan.
The meeting called on the representatives of non-governmental organizations to participate in the activities carried out as part of the Sustainable Development Goals. Advanced Group meetings will be held every three months.
