PM Briefed on Textile Industry Development Programs in Gyumri
Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan traveled today to Gyumri town of Shirak Marz. As he toured Sastex textile manufacturer’s construction site, the Premier got acquainted with the ongoing work and the existing problems.
A clothing factory will be founded in Gyumri under a USD12 million-worth investment program that will generate 700-800 jobs. To this end, the Government made a decision to allocate to Sastex the building of the former regional hospital and the surrounding areas.
Sastex CEO Christian Geleji advised that the groundwork reinforcement activities had already been completed. The building is earthquake-proof and almost ready for commissioning. Interior and exterior decorations remain to be carried out along with the installation of electric power fittings. The factory will consist of 5 buildings.
The building of regional hospital shall serve as a training center, which will also accommodate the Company’s administrative premises and a stand for showcasing the Sastex-made products. 90 percent of the output will be exported. Christian Geleji also noted that there are cottages currently installed next to the new-built factory. There are several families living there, which will need to be accommodated after evacuation. Therefore, 16 one-story houses are being built to accommodate those households free of charge. The first 8 houses were said to be ready for housewarming in the month of July.
Introduced to the next steps of development, the Premier was asked to consider the possibility of allocating to the Company the unused buildings by the nearby railway. Welcoming Sastex’s development plans, Karen Karapetyan expressed readiness to support them in this matter.
The Head of Government also called at Oyunjyan charity fund in Gyumri. The Premier first watched a concert staged by the pupils of the Fund’s Varduhi arts school, after which he inspected progress in construction of Aghavni crafts center. The Prime Minister was told that the the Center will have been inaugurated this yearend.
